Cedar Springs received a note from one of its ministry partners in Finland. Here are excerpts of what the Senior Pastor of Helsinki Saalem Church wrote:
I want to thank you for your generous heart in supporting us in reaching the Muslim Refugees in Finland. We have received over 22,000 asylum seekers so far, with estimates for the rest of the year ranging from 35,000-50,000. Next year is still anyone’s guess.
With your help, we have started Arabic worship service on Sundays twice a month. Arab worship services have had about 30 people – a number we’re expecting will grow.
We began hosting “Friendship Nights” where we bring in refugees from three different centres for an evening of hanging out, tea, program, kids program, etc. Our first night brought in 120 refugees from Iraq, Syria, Kosovo, and Albania. Similar events are being held all over Finland in churches close to refugee centers.
We are training volunteers from 12 different churches with the help of our Arab pastor and his wife. Our Arab pastor is also helping various churches around Finland to establish relationships with the refugees. The emergency shelters are popping up all around the nation. It is not uncommon for there to be more Muslims in worship services these days than Christians! What a day to be alive!
Please pray with us that we wouldn’t squander this opportunity, or be hindered by fear, jealousy or lack.
