USA – PEOPLE INTERNATIONAL
Michael and Diana are forming a network of mission agencies, churches, and individuals in a concerted effort to advance gospel ministries among Muslim refugees in Europe and Turkey. They are accomplishing this through four key strategies: (1) Forming loose partnerships with European efforts that are reaching out to the Muslim communities; (2) Mobilizing short term and long term teams from North America to come alongside these European efforts; (3) Encouraging development of community centers near refugee camps; and (4) Preparing the way to provide quality Bible training by extension for present and future church leaders of churches and fellowships that are springing up in Farsi, Arabic, Dari, and Turkish languages.
Until June 2016, Michael served as International Director of People International. Diana worked alongside Michael, visiting the fields, encouraging their workers, and concentrating on developing a ministry to the women. They have been missionaries for more than 43 years, working initially in Eastern Europe as some of the first missionaries to live long term under communism. They established the Evangelical Bible Institute for Yugoslavs in 1981. In the mid-1980s, together with two other expats, Michael established the foundations for the theological seminary in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he served as academic dean until 1998. They served as Regional Leaders for Pioneers in Europe, Russia, and Latin America before joining hands with People International. Diana is an art teacher and has been involved with developing art programs for three international MK schools in Austria, Germany, and Hungary. They have three adult children and three grandchildren.
- For a new partnership with Gateways2Life, a ministry that is setting up a community center for women and children just outside a refugee camp on Lesbos. In that camp there are 1500 families and single women.
- For 11 key leaders who the Johnsons met with in Vienna this last July to learn how to best develop the spiritual leaders of the numerous new refugee churches in Europe.
- For a new ministry mentoring new mission CEOs that Michael began in September 2017.
- For health and strength to press on. Acts 2:17 says “and your old men shall dream dreams.” They continue to dream of what God can do among Muslims.
