AFRICA – SIL / WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS
Leoma is retiring this year after 35 years of Bible translation work in Africa, serving most recently as Director of Training in Africa for SIL (Wycliffe Bible Translator’s sister organization). Her goal has been to enable each African language community to have vision, capacity, and resources so that it is accomplishing its language development and Scripture access goals. In particular, Leoma has been responsible for developing university-level, accredited training in linguistics, literacy, Bible translation, Scripture use, anthropology, and language assessment (survey) to people across Africa. In addition, she helped to develop appropriate training in a variety of management skills, so that language teams and those supervising the teams have adequate skills to manage resources and report to donors.
- For wisdom as the training program develops in Africa. They need staff to prepare the materials and ensure that teaching is given at the right level for the students.
- For the Shilluk people who have been displaced from their homes by the two-year civil war in South Sudan. Pray that using the Bible in their language will comfort and sustain them during this very difficult time.
- For Leoma as she retires.
